Grampian Police settle on Johnson for L-D position

After a search of less than two weeks following the resignation of Leading-Drummer Nicky Gibson, the Grade 2 Grampian Police Pipe Band of Scotland has appointed Marc Johnson to the role.

Johnson, 26, had been holding down the drum section since Gibson’s departure, saying, “Grampian Police Pipe Band is one of the best Grade 2 Pipe Bands in the world and I’m delighted to accept the role. I’m really looking forward to the challenge of building on the successes we have experienced over the last couple of years both as a drum corps and as a band.”

Johnson has been with the Grampian Police band for several years, and previously played with the now defunct Tayside Police in both Grade 1 and Grade 2.

A release from the band said that the group has 35 playing members on its roster, eight of whom work with the Grampian Police force.
