Joe Noble sells The Band Room

We have learned that The Band Room, the Glasgow-based dealer of percussion and bagpipe merchandise, has been sold by Joe Noble to Paul and Brian McComish, members of the Grade 1 Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band.

Noble and others involved with the business, including the legendary former Strathclyde Police Pipe Band Pipe-Major Iain MacLellan, will continue as consultants with the company.

“Our immediate aim is to consolidate the success of the current business – shop and national and international telephone sales,” said Paul McComish, “and to enhance this by adding a comprehensive Web presence at, along with retail outlets in other geographies.”

Besides pipe bands, The Band Room also sells products and services to marching bands and individuals.

Joe Noble commented, “I have decided that this is a good time for us to become more involved with our family and other business interests. We are delighted to hand over The Band Room to Paul and Brian McComish. The Band Room has over the years been a successful business and . . . we have customers and friends all over the world. We are certain that The Band Room will go from strength to strength. I will continue to contribute in a consultative capacity for the foreseeable future.”

Noble, a former World Solo Pipe Band Drumming Champion who sits on the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association’s judging panel, has been at times a centre of pipe band controversy since starting The Band Room in the early 1990s. The Band Room has been one of the world’s foremost dealers of Pearl equipment.

Financial terms of the sale were not disclosed.
