Kilpatrick Wins 13th World Solo Championship

Bathgate, Scotland – October 27, 2001 – Jim Kilpatrick of the Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band won the World Solo Drumming Championship for an unprecedented 13th time at Bathgate Academy. Second prize went to Andrew Scullion of the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band, and third to Gordon Brown of Boghall & Bathgate. Both Brown and Scullion are former winners of the event.

Kilpatrick won both the March, Strathspey & Reel and Hornpipe & Jig sections, although in the MSR he did not have a single first placing from any of the three judges (C. Mordant, G. Craig, and J. MacKenzie). In that section, Andrew Scullion had two firsts and a ninth (MacKenzie) from the judges. Eric Ward of the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band had the other first place.

In the Hornpipe & Jig, Kilpatrick had two firsts (K. Reynolds, W. Dunlop) and a fifth (J. Noble), with Andrew Scullion receiving the other first placing.
