LA Scots confirm attendance at Maxville

The Los Angeles Scots have confirmed that both the organization’s Grade 1 and Grade 4 bands will be making the 2800-mile journey to the North American Championships at Maxville, Ontario, in August. The bands will also attend the Montreal Highland Games the following day.

The LA Scots Grade 1 band will perform at a concert in Ottawa on Thursday, August 3 as the headline act for “B In The Park – An Evening of Celtic Excellence” organized by the Sons of Scotland Pipe Band. The event is at Confederation Park at 6:30 p.m. Information is available at the Sons of Scotland Web site.

The Grade 1 contest at Maxville will likely comprise five bands – City of Washington, LA Scots, Peel Regional Police, Toronto Police and Windsor Police. The 78th Fraser Highlanders have said that they will not be attending this year’s North American Championships, favouring instead to compete at Bridge of Allan in Scotland.

Maxville will be the first major contest for the LA Scots’ new leadership of Pipe-Major Colin Armstrong and Leading-Drummer Andrew Brubaker, who took over in 2005.
