Liddell K.O.’s Armstrong in Glasgow final

Glasgow – May 12, 2005 – Stuart Liddell of Inveraray, Scotland, emerged the 2005 champion of the annual Scottish Pipers Association Knockout Competition, an event that started with eight pipers in October 2004 and ended with Liddell and Chris Armstrong of Bathgate, Scotland, going head-to-head in the final event.

Liddell and Armstrong are two of the fastest-fingered and most creative solo pipers in the world, and the decision, rendered by the audience packing the High School Club in Anniesland, Glasgow, was razor-close.

To get to the final, Liddell bested Gordon Walker of Moscow, Scotland, in March, and Armstrong won over Stuart Cassells in April. Also taking part in the series of events were Margaret Houlihan, Angus MacColl, Donald MacPhee, and John Patrick.
