Liddell, McWhirter and friends take the high road to raise funds

2006 World Solo Drumming Champion Steven McWhirter and 2007 Clasp-winner Stuart Liddell (pictured right) will join several piping and drumming friends in April to walk the 95-mile-long West Highland Way to raise funds for the Novice Juvenile-grade Inveraray & District Pipe Band. Liddell is Pipe-Major of the band and McWhirter, a member of the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, travels from Northern Ireland to teach the group once a month.

The sponsored walk is set to commence on April 6th in Milngavie, Scotland, and will end in Fort William on April 11th. Along the way Liddell, McWhirter and fellow piping and drumming walkers Lyn Dempster, Ally Fletcher, Geordie Hunter, Raymond Kennedy, Allan Maclean, Jim MacMillan, Kate Paton and Willie Park, will perform concerts at various locations, including Balmaha, Crianlarich, Bridge of Orchy and Kinlochleven.

Those wishing to make a donation to the band can visit a special secure website.

Founded in 2005, Inveraray & District won the Novice Juvenile competition at the 2007 World Pipe Band Championships.

A DVD is also planned, with proceeds from it going to Glasgow’s College of Piping.

  1. Getting together to build it from the ground up is what a true pipe band is all about. I just donated 10 quid and hope others follow suit. Good luck to them all!!

  2. Anyone who wants to see the value of this project should check out Inveraray & District on YouTube. This is a great young band, and I think worth the £10 support. Good luck!
