Mulhearn wins both Arthur Gillies Memorial events

Weikersheim Castle, Germany – March 3-5, 2006 – Brian Mulhearn won both the Piobaireachd and MSR events at the annual Arthur G. Gillies Memorial Solo Piping Competition. The event attracted pipers from across continental Europe.

It was the third year of the competition, which memorializes Gillies, who died in 2003 after a very long and successful career as a solo piper. Gillies often taught in Germany, and one of his pupils, Martin Keßler, organizes the event. The competition is open to non-graded and CPA members with a piobaireachd grading of B or C.

Also competing but not in the prizes were, from Germany, Bernd Mößle, Klaus Linhart, Dr. Andy Fluck, Stefan Rau, Marco Kreissl, Jan Belak, Christian Grammel, and, from the Netherlands, Marc Stoop.

The contest was part of the three days of events that also included a lecture and recital by the judges.
