New Invitational Piping Event Offers $3500 In Prizes

The Glengarry Pipe Band has announced that it is sponsoring a new and innovative invitational solo piping competition to be held in Ottawa on January 31, 2004.

The first annual “Glengarry Invitational Piping Extravaganza” will take place at the Ottawa Conference Centre. The contest will feature an own-choice, two-of-each March, Strathspey & Reel, and a free-form medley, in which competitors are asked to play “ten minutes of anything you can dream up, a bagpipe must be
one of the instruments played.”

  • Bruce Gandy, Halifax, Nova Scotia
  • Ann Gray, Calgary, Alberta
  • Michael Grey, Dundas, Ontario
  • Andrew Hayes, Ottawa
  • Stuart Liddell, Inverary, Scotland
  • Bill Livingstone, Whitby, Ontario
  • Ian K. MacDonald, Whitby, Ontario
  • James MacHattie, Toronto
  • Ed Neigh, Waterloo, Ontario
  • Andy Rogers, Halifax, Nova Scotia
  • Andrew Smith, Calgary, Alberta
  • James P. Troy, Victoria, British Columbia

    The aggregate winner will receive $2000, second gets $1000, and third $500.

    Funding for the competition is coming directly from the Glengarry Pipe Band. The contest is designed to be a fundraiser for the band by drawing spectators for the ceilidh where the Free-4-All event will be staged.
