New piobaireachd event commemorates Culloden

The National Piping Centre and the National Trust for Scotland have combined to create an innovative new piping competition that celebrates the history of the Battle of Culloden on April 14 near the historic battle field near Inverness.

The piobaireachd contest will feature four invited pipers: Willie McCallum, Bearsden, Scotland; Angus MacColl, Benderlochj, Scotland; Euan MacCrimmon, Inverness, Scotland; and Dr. Angus MacDonald, Portree, Scotland.

The contestants will perform tunes associated with the Battle of Culloden and the Jacobite era.

The competition will be held at the Drumossie Hotel, near Culloden, and coincides with the annual re-dedication of the battlefield. Tickets are priced at £12 for adults or £6 for concessions and are available from the National Trust for Scotland’s events website.
