No Grade 4 qualifier at Maxville this year

The Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO) has announced that the Grade 4 pipe band competition at the North American Championships at Maxville, Ontario, will be a single contest, with no qualifier as was the case in 2004.

“It was decided that had there been more than 24 bands entered, a ‘qualifier’ would have been desirable,” says PPBSO President Bob Allen. “But with 20 bands entered in the grade it was felt that these could be accommodated in a single contest on the Saturday afternoon.”

Nearly 70 bands are entered across the five grades at Maxville, which takes place July 30 and 31. In terms of combined numbers of competitors in solo annd band competitions, Maxville is the world’s largest competition.
