PPBSO confirms Grade 4 and 5 Maxville band contests to start in the morning

The Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO) has formally decided to move the Grade 4 and Grade 5 pipe band competitions at the North American Championships at Maxville, Ontario, to Saturday morning, with actual starting time determined by the number of entries.

The Professional Piobaireachd competition will continue without any significant change, after it was suggested that the event might be deleted. That and the other Professional events will continue to be held on the Saturday, along with the Grade 1 Amateur piping events.

The North American Championships have been faced with an ever-increasing number of entrants, particularly from solo competitors. The addition and popularity of the Grade 5 band competition has resulted in logistical challenges.

An added advantage to scheduling the Grade 4 and Grade 5 band competitions to the morning is that members of those bands will be assured of getting to listen to the Grade 2 and Grade 1 band events in the afternoon.
