Piping Live! 2007 kicks off May 24

The fourth annual Piping Live! International Piping Festival will launch officially on May 24 in Glasgow with a concert by the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in aid of the Children’s Hospice Association Society.

Piping Live! will run this year from August 6th to 12th at various venues in Glasgow, and will feature the usual full-slate of piping-related performers. The slate of Piping Live! performances will be announced at a media event on May 24.

The Festival takes advantage of the influx of visitors to the World Pipe Band Championships, this year scheduled for August 11 at Glasgow Green.

Joining the National Youth Pipe Band in the kick-off concert will be “Breabach,” a Celtic folk group that features pipes, whistles, fiddle, guitar and percussion, and “TNT” (The New Tradition) will also take the stage. TNT is described as the world’s first boy band on pipes. The group won the Pipe Factor competition at the National Piping Centre in 2006 and has recently signed a deal with Greentrax Recordings.
