Pipe band will soon be able to more easily customize their ensemble sound with Premier Music International of England and Hosbilt of Tiverton, Ontario, extended their relationship. Premier will now offer the full Hosbilt line of bass- and tenor-drums.According to Hosbilt owner and developer Craig “Hoss” Colquhoun (pictured right – photo: Winter Storm), the specifications for the drums will remain the same.

He sees the advantage of Premier’s “high quality-control programs” for the manufacture of the instruments.”I’m excited to have the range of drums into a new agreement,” Colquhoun said. “It’s important that Premier and Hosbilt move into the future with drums that sound and look amazing. This allows bands a chance to continue in their advancement in sound.”The agreement is an extension of Premier and Hosbilt’s original relationship, which provided for Premier to manufacture a limited number of Hosbilt instruments.Premier will now offer bass-drums in the following sizes:

  • 26″ x 12″
  • 28″ x 12″
  • 28″ x 14″
  • 28″ x 16″
  • 28″ x 18″

and tenor-drums in:

  • 14″ x 12″
  • 15″ x 12″
  • 16″ x 12″
  • 16″ x 14″
  • 18″ x 14″
  • 20″ x 14″

Colquhoun said that the variety of sizes makes it possible for a band to tune to every note of the chanter with its tenors, or “functional tuning” as the method has become known as.
