RSPBA seeks advice on World’s via extensive online survey

One piper with a Grade 2 band that competes at the World’s, who commented on condition of anonymity, said, “I was impressed by how wide-open the questions were, and they seemed to give a lot  of latitude for answering. I suggested it was time to do a better job with performer and composer rights management, and that the Grade 1 qualifier should be dropped in favour of a morning MSR and afternoon medley. I think it’s great that the RSPBA is asking people for their views, and that the questions are open enough to allow a wide range of opinion and response. I am hopeful that there will be a few changes made as a result. Having said that, the RSPBA does do a great job of managing these huge contests, and I tried to let them know that also.”

The RSPBA did not respond when asked how many responses the organization expects and what it plans to do with them.

  1. Thanks to the heads up from this site I was able to sign up for the RSPBA poll, which I completed and sent back via email. There are many interesting questions posed about the structure and duration of the contest from the point of view of both the participants and the spectators with plenty of space for comments. I’m sure that it will take quite a while for the RSPBA to review and evaluate the completed surveys. All anyone can really ask is to be given a chance to provide insightful comments and I thank the RSPBA for the opportunity to do so.

  2. Hats off to the RSPBA for looking into the format of the Worlds and including the interests of the pipe band fraternity. I really hope at least those who took part get feedback from it. Thought it a shame though that only almost 200 people” registered to take part in the survey.”
