SFU preparing for double CD

On Home Ground will be the title of the latest recording project of the four-time World Champion Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, the ninth recording in the band’s history.

“[A recording] in itself is not big news as many bands record them these days,” says Jack Lee, SFU’s pipe-sergeant and business manager. “However, how we are doing it has never been done before.”

The band will record both CDs in July, with Volume 1 scheduled for release this summer. The tracks for Volume 2 will be completed also this summer, but will not be released at least another year.

The selections will be recorded in a studio, but then all tracks will be performed and captured in three concerts in the same week. The concerts will take place on June 30, July 1 and July 2 at the SFU Performing Arts Theatre on the Burnaby Mountain Campus of the university.

The band will then select the best tracks from all performances for inclusion on the CDs.
