Scantily Plaid reels in Hamilton Music Award

This One’s for You, the latest CD by the Celtic folk trio, Scantily Plaid, was been named Folk/Traditional Recording of the Year at the 2010 Hamilton Music Awards, one of Canada’s top prizes in the industry. Scantily Plaid features the well known piper Bob Worrall on pipes and whistles.

The awards took place at a gala ceremony in Hamilton on November 20th, while Worrall was busy coordinating the annual George Sherriff Amateur Invitational Solo Piping Competition.

The group, which also features vocalist and harper Ruth Sutherland and guitarist and drummer Doug Feaver, was up against two other Hamilton, Ontario-area artists. Nominees in other categories at the awards included prominent international artist, Sarah Harmer.

“We’re absolutely over the moon with this recognition,” Worrall said. “We worked so hard to get a great cross section of the music that we’ve been composing and arranging over the last few years. The feedback that we’ve been receiving on the CD has been fantastic. For us, just getting the nomination was a great achievement. Winning the actual award is outstanding. A great way to cap off our 10 years of making music together.”
