Set Tunes for 2003 Announced by Piobaireachd Society

The Piobaireachd Society has announced the set tune lists for the 2003 Argyllshire gathering, Northern Meeting, and Piobaireachd Society (Canada) competitions.

The list of tunes for the Senior competitions has been drawn largely from the MacArthur-MacGregor Manuscript of Piobaireachd (M-G MSS), printed in 2001 under the eye of the Piobaireachd Society. Competitors are required to repeat the urlar where indicated in the text.

Senior Competitions
“Spaidearachd Bharrach” (M-G MSS)
“Abercairney’s Salute” (M-G MSS)
“Lady Margaret MacDonald’s Salute” (M-G MSS)
“Salute to MacDonald of Staffa” (PS Bk 13)
“Sir James MacDonald of the Isles’ Salute” (PS Bk 14)
“Lament for Cluny Macpherson” (PS Bk 14)

Competitors have to submit four tunes from the list.

Gold Medal Competitions
“The MacIntyres’ Salute” (PS Bk 11)
“I Got a Kiss of the King’s Hand” (PS Bk 7 & Kilberry)
“Farewell to the Laird of Islay” (PS Bk 9)
“The MacLeods’ Salute” (PS Bk 12 & Kilberry – must include both a mach variations)
“The Finger Lock” (PS Bk 1 & Kilberry)
“Ronald Macdonald of Morar’s Lament” )PS Bk 8 & Kilberry)
“The Battle of the Pass of Crieff” (PS Bk 1 & Kilberry)
“Lament for Colin Roy Mackenzie” (PS Bk 3 & Kilberry)
“The Blue Ribbon” (PS Bk 5& Kilberry)
“Mackenzie of Applecross’s Salute” (PS Bk 10)

Competitors have to submit six tunes.

Silver Medal Competitions

“The Lament for Mary MacLeod” (PS Bk 5 & Kilberry)
“Sir Ewan Cameron of Lochiel’s Salute” (PS Bk 10)

“MacLeod’s Controversy” (PS Bk 10)
“The MacDonalds Are Simple” (PS Bk 9)
“Lady Anapool’s Lament” (PS Bk 9)
“The MacFarlanes’ Gathering” (PS Bk 7 & Kilbbery)

Competitors submit four tunes.
