St. Laurence O’Toole invited to November concert in Pittsburgh

The Grade 1 St. Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band of Dublin has been invited to stage a concert at Pittsburgh’s Carnegie Hall on November 10, 2007. The band reportedly takes the place of the Grade 1 Strathclyde Police Pipe Band, which had to pull out of the event.

Details are still to come, but sources with the band say that the concert will be an updated version of SLOT’s “Dawning of the Day” production, which it staged successfully in 2005 at the annual Pre-World’s Concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. That concert was made into a well-reviewed CD of the same name, with a highlight performance of the entire band singling “The Auld Triangle.”

“We might even have a new song!” said the SLOT source.

SLOT had also been planning a return to New York City in 2008, which marks the fiftieth anniversary of the band’s first visit to the city.

Stay tuned to pipes|drums for details on the concert as they become available.

  1. Yes,SLOT will be taking up the SLOT vacated by Strathclyde Polis. If SLOT hadn’t agreed to do it,then Power would have got the SLOT. So, to summarise – SLOT are doing it ! I hope this clears up the confusion (

  2. It will be nice to welcome the SLOT to the Burgh. They will be prime time in the city that has Sidney Crosby and the Steelers anaat. Not too far away from Ontario either. Be there or be Square. There’s a gauntlet to you all. Also it’s EUSPBA AGM weekend. Also held here to coinside. Also check out the Balmoral Classic Junior Competition. Same weekend. Should be fun. Now who could miss this event?????????????? More going on here than say a Maxville in November.
