Stephen Megarity leaves reedmaking business

Stephen Megarity and Andy Ross, who comprised the well known reedmaking company Megarity-Ross, have decided to part ways after Megarity decided to make Scotland his permanent home.

As of April 1, 2004, the company, based in Long Beach, California, will continue as Ross Reedmakers, with Andy Ross running the business. Megarity will establish Megarity Reeds, his own reedmaking business in Kilmarnock, Scotland.

After living in the Los Angeles area for several years, Megarity returned to the United Kingdom in March 2003, and has played with Scotland’s Boghall & Bathgate Caledonia Pipe Band. Originally from Northern Ireland, Megarity previously played with Field Marshal Montgomery, the Los Angeles Police, and the Los Angeles Scots bands.

“Due to the demographics, we both felt the pursuit of separate interests was necessary,” said Andy Ross. “The name may have changed, but the superior quality remains.”

Megarity-Ross reeds have grown steadily in poularity, with many top-flight Grade 1 bands working with them.
