The Skye to celebrate 40 years with April shindig

The Phoenix Honda Glasgow Skye Pipe Band plans to mark its fortieth anniversary year in style by feting all current and former members and supporters at a celebration party at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel on April 19th. The band promises a “champagne reception” and a night of “fine dining, entertainment and dancing until the wee, small hours.”

With Pipe-Major Craig Campbell and Leading-Drummer Murray Stewart running the group, the band currently competes in Grade 2, taking prizes at RSPBA championships in 2006 and 2007. Over its 40 years, Glasgow Skye Association, as it was known before it secured title sponsorship from Phoenix Honda in 2004, reached Grade 1 in 1972 after the band won the Grade 2 event at the 1971 World Pipe Band Championships.

The band is well known for sponsoring and promoting the annual “Pre-World’s Concert” at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, an event that it started in Motherwell in 1992.

Tickets to the Phoenix Honda Glasgow Skye 40th anniversary dinner are priced at £36 each, and are available from the band by contacting 01563-536019 or 07882-444597.

“We look forward to everyone donning the fancy frocks and dancing shoes for a night to remember,” said band spokesperson Lesley Jamieson.
