Update 1: 2007 World’s Week Grade 1 practice schedules

For the sixth straight year pipes|drums is pleased to provide readers with a guide to the schedules and locations of practices of Grade 1 bands competing for the World Pipe Band Championship, this year on August 11 in Glasgow.

All bands are listed, including those that have not yet responded with details. Their information will be added if or as it is provided, so please keep checking back over the days leading up to the World’s.

Readers are advised that schedules may change, and that they should double-check before making travel plans. Bands are listed in alphabetical order.

78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel)
When: Aug. 7, 8, 10 & 11: 10 am-12 pm; Aug. 9: 3-5 pm
Where: Somewhere near Victoria Hall residences, Kyle/Baird streets, Glasgow
Note: Performing in George Square on Thursday at 11 am. “All listeners are
welcome to attend practices.”

Alberta Caledonia
When: Aug. 6-10: 11 am – 1 pm, Caledonia Court, Glasgow
Note: Band competing at North Berwick, Aug. 4, and Bridge of Allan, Aug. 5

Australia Highlanders
When: Aug. 7: 9-10 am & 1-3 pm; Aug. 8: 12-3 pm; Aug. 9: 4 pm; Aug. 10: morning practice at university, afternoon practice at Glasgow Green.
Where: Strathclyde University (Rottenrow)
Note: competing Aug. 5 at Bridge of Allan; competing Aug. 8 in Piping Live! International Quartet Competition; performing at George Square Aug. 9, 11 am – 1 pm. “Practice times may change depending on draw times and weather etc. We encourage those interested to ask one of the band members at the university.”

Scottish Lion-78th Fraser Highlanders
When: Morning and afternoon, in and around the university
Where: University of Strathclyde, Rottenrow, Glasgow
Note: “If weather prevents outdoor practice, we will have an indoor location that can’t accommodate guests. We will be having an “open practice” in conjunction with the Todd Bar on the Wednesday afternoon around 3 pm.”

Simon Fraser University

Note: Band concert at Dumfries on Tuesday evening.

UPDATED:Strathclyde Police
Due to recent events, restrictions have been placed on the access of visitors to our practices due to them being held within Strathclyde Police Headquarters. Only “open practice,” Wednesday, August 8th, 2-4 pm (outside) at Lochinch, our Police Club, Pollok Country Park. Directions click here.

  1. Thanks for doing this again. But what about Strathclyde Police? We really want to check out one of their practices and I hope they send in their information soon!
