Updated: Gordon Lee confirmed playing with SFU

Gordon Lee, the side drummer who has made the finals of the World Solo Drumming Championships for the last six years, has left the Dysart & Dundonald Pipe Band for Simon Fraser University, sources have confirmed.

Lee had been with the Dysart organization for more than 20 years and was asked to take over as Leading-Drummer position after Paul Turner left the band in 2004. Brian Purves, who joined Dysart after leading the drum section of the highly successful Grade 2 Chivas Regal Pipe Band, eventually took the job. Turner subsequently joined Vale of Atholl in September of last year.

One observer noted that the addition of Lee to SFU’s section gives the band three players who were finalists in last year’s World Solos, more than any other band. Lee’s move had been widely reported for several weeks.
