Updated: PPBSO finalizes 2007 regrading; Hamilton Police moves to Grade 2

The Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario (PPBSO) has completed its regarding after the 2006, and only four bands have been moved, including the Hamilton Police Pipe Band, which has been upgraded to Grade 2.

  • Grade 3 to Grade 2: Hamilton Police
  • Grade 4 to Grade 3: Braemar
  • Grade 5 to Grade 4: Windsor Police
  • Grade 3 to Grade 4: Rob Roy

The Rob Roy band had requested to move Grade 4 after encountering personnel issues.

In solo piping, the most prominent upgrades were to the Professional grade, with Robbie Beaton and Kylie MacHattie making the jump. There were no recommended upgrades to Professional in solo drumming.

The Hamilton Police dominated Grade 3 throughout 2006, winning every Grade 3 contest in which the band competed.

“We’ve had a great couple of seasons and are now looking forward to the challenge of competing in Grade 2,” said Hamilton Police Pipe-Major Pete Aumonier. “We expect to field a large band in 2007. The membership from previous seasons is stable, and in fact, we’ve made some key additions. We have an aggressive agenda for 2007, which possibly includes the Ulster Championships, the World Championships, and a Piping Live! performance.”

  1. Question. Why does it take so long to make these upgrades? Can’t they be done right after the season ends? At least its better than the EUSPBA. People are still waiting there.
