Maxwell]Glasgow – August 7, 2007 – The quartet from the St. Laurence O’Toole Pipe Band won the first-ever International Quartet Challenge as part of the Piping Live! Glasgow International Piping Festival at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Alen Tully, Kevin Rogers, Johnny Chesney and Richard Magowan made up the SLOT four.

The event attracted entries from six Grade 1 bands competing at the World Pipe Band Championships: Australia Highlanders, 78th Highlanders (Halifax Citadel), ScottishPower, LA Scots, Manawatu Scottish and St. Laurence O’Toole.

Quartet competitions are considered one of the most nerve-racking performances that a piper can undertake, with every blemish in tone and playing immediately obvious to the judges. The contest was judged by five “secret” judges in the audience.
