Updated: Speirs wins Northern Meeting Gold Medal

Aviemore, Scotland – August 30, 2007 – Iain Speirs of Edinburgh (pictured, right) achieved the Highland Society of London’s Gold Medal for Piobaireachd at the Northern Meeting today, adding to the Argyllshire Gathering Gold Medal that he won in 2002. Earlier in the day Margaret Dunn of Glasgow won the Silver Medal.

Announcement of the Silver Star Former Winners March, Strathspey & Reel, whose start was delayed by an hour-and-a-half because of the Gold Medal starting and finish late, will not be made until the end of the Friday competitions.

Congrats Margaret it was a long time coming but you have made history by becoming the first member of the Irish Piobaireachd Society in the Gold Medal and we are all so proud of your achievement.
