Wagner marches to victory at Arthur Gillies Memorial contest

Castle Weikersheim, Germany – February 5, 2005 – The second annual Arthur Gillies Memorial took place at the Music Academy of the Castle Weikersheim in southern Germany where Gillies had been conducting courses until his death in 2003.

The event combined a memorial competition with two lectures and a recital by judges Colin MacLellan and Jenny Hazzard.

The Piobaireachd event, reserved for those graded B or C by the Competing Pipers Association (CPA), is the first CPA-graded competition on the European mainland. Nearly fifteen competitors had signed up, in the majority from Germany with one competitor from the Netherlands.
