Walker wins Piping Centre contest
Glasgow – August 15, 2004 – Gordon Walker of Glasgow was the overall winner of the International Invitational Solo Piping Competition held here today at the National Piping Centre.
Walker won the March, Strathspey & Reel event, while Willie McCallum of Bearsden, Scotland, gained first prize in the Piobaireachd section.
Other competitors accepting invitations were Iain Speirs, Edinburgh; Angus MacColl, Benderloch, Scotland; Bruce Gandy, Halifax, Canada; Jori Chisholm, Seattle; Chris Armstrong, Bathgate, Scotland; and Jack Lee, Surrey, Canada.
Judges were John Wilson and Gavin Stoddart for the Piobaireachd, and Iain MacLellan and Bob Worrall for the MSR.
The competition was sponsored jointly by Piping Hot, the National Piping Centre, and The Band Room and was final event of the Piping Hot festival.
