  1. Beer tent jibber and opinions are just that. I’m expressing mine. Shotts were poor on the day and I am questioning the reasoning behind their placing and the system that puts them there – given how strong the performances below them were. They were just poor and not good enough for second or maybe even a top 6 IMHO. Maybe they are still seen as Scotland’s great white hope” against the marauders from overseas et al…? Anyone who really knows

  2. SHIRLEY, step down from alter, stop being so self-righteous and join the debate, rather than get personal. The great white hope” statement is historical fact and relates to a certain boxer. Racist??? Pull your head in. You don’t even know what colour my skin is! Back to the point: the result is fact. No disputing it

  3. Lawrie, nobody disputes that you are entitled to your opinion – I think Shirley and possibly others find your approach somewhat condescending and sometimes reading what your submission comes across in a biased and rude manner. Not to say that it is your intention and again it’s just the way I see it. The Tea” comment again showed that you are angry and perhaps insulted. I think enough insults have been cast

  4. Methinks that the wee man with the moustache was not amused” with the lovely D’s at the beginning of that performance. That was the moment that they were relegated to 2nd or worse (remember the three rules for winning?… Tone

  9. Just listened to the recordings of the British. And while they are just that (recordings), I think out side of SFU, it’s going to be **** tough to crack top 6 this year. FMM is too good, and Shotts and Strathclyde are close. With that being said. I think if you haven’t done so yet, take a listen, because the Police may have the best medley this year.

  10. SFU will be right up there. They come up very quickly over the course of their season, and peak when they need to. FMM were a class act, as were SLOT who were stiff to not get 2nd. Strathclyde were very solid. Ballycoan have improved a lot. Well done to them. Power haven’t slipped, but haven’t taken that next step either. The rest can please themselves. I must say that Shotts, in my opinion, were as rough as guts. Very poor attack and enormous sepaprations going into the circle – playing and intonation. Sagging D’s were dreadfully apparent. Drones were the usual ‘not quite right’ status, tending worse as the performance went on, not to mention sounding hollow, buzzy and very plastic. Their placing counters all this, of course, but they seem to be one of the bands where I just ask ‘WTF were the judges listening to?’ …..or are they looking first and then…….

  11. lawrie,i agree shotts where very poor.i dont know either what the judges are listening to either.slot should have got 2nd with the police 3rd.its going to be a great grade 1 at the worlds this year between fmm,sfu and slot.dont discount boghall either they had a good run on saturday aswell

  12. Is Shotts bribing the judges? No way they were second! I personally had them 7th. Otherwise, the results were pretty accurate for once. It seems to me that more often than not that the top 6 at some majors should be completely turned around (i.e. 1st should be 6th, etc.). For me this is what the order should have been: 1. St. Laurence O’Toole 2. Strathclyde Police 3. Field Marshal Montgomery 4. Boghall & Bathgate 5. Scottish Power 6. Ballycoan

  13. So much for armchair quarterbacks – It is what it is and Shott’s won’t be far away on the day either – A lot of bands get bad results from days when they feel they produced a good performance and then there are days when it’s not so good and they get a break. It happens to all” bands and we should all respect that. Personally I don’t think anything is achieved by negatively going after a particular band as it’s still early days and “all” the big bands are getting ready to peak.”

  14. shotts only got 2nd because of there name.mathison/kilpatrick are past there sell past date.pore concert last year and bad performances the last 5/6 years.come on judges wise up.people are getting fed up of bad results in the majors

  15. Once again we have people who like to slam dunk top competitors. In the instance of Jim Kilpatrick and to his defence. Jim has already proved his metal by being the most consistant and most talented drummer of all time and remains at the top of his game. Bitterness of the previous sort is generally brought about by jealousy and typically by one who couldn’t fasten either Mathisons or Kilpatrick’s shoes.

  16. The last 5-6 years? wow. If you ask me, that 2007 medley was amazing. Horrid day that as well. Not that I haven’t been negative before. These guys are pros. They’ll get their stuff together and on the day they will make their run. From early recordings it still sounds like the Canucks have a little catching up to do.

  17. I would have to say that the Canadiens, particularly in Ontario, certainly have their work cut out for them, regardless of whether or not Shotts was on that day or not…….

  18. never heard so much bull…its funny that everyone in the beer tent on saturday were actually tipping shotts to win….but then again that was REAL pipe band people that go and compete..not just sit n listen to you tube…. as for the worlds only 3 bands in it…fm shotts and sfu…big gap between them n the rest

  19. Surely you can’t be serious?…. Dunno…SLOT sounded pretty good to me. And don’t count out the 78th. Very dangerous indiviuals…..There are more, but need I go on? Remember, you are only as good as your last performance….

  20. lawrie….theres only one person jibberrin here and its you..even gettin racist with ur white hope comment..which im surprised the editor allowed as many people would find it offensive…the most succesful P/M in history had them 2nd…u got better ears than him????

  21. 🙂 This is all very amusing. The result is something that I am shocked by, nor have I lost sleep over it. It’s not about Shotts, its about all bands getting what they deserve. In most cases they do but, in my opinion, not this time. The circus is back in town.

  22. i was always lead to believe that the winning formula was intro, tone, musical performance..if shotts get relegated for bad d’s then should fm have won with a major blooter in the opener and another one in the jigs?? and re lawries comment..think your contradicting urself m8…u say u have no issues with a judge that had them 2nd…yet you say they don’t deserve to be 2nd…????????

  23. Don’t forget the ending(s)… Yes, I’m sure that you were lead to believe that. However, if the pipes don’t sound good, no one wants to listen. Why else would bands spend so much time tuning?
