“Manawatu is a fantastic band and it was an offer I couldn’t refuse,” Potter said. “The management and players have made me feel like a member of their family. I’m looking forward to the challenge of running the Manawatu drum corps and hope to continue the good work Graeme has done over the past five years.”

As for missing the World’s, it ends the band’s streak that started in 2003 of attending the contest every other year.

In additional to financial restrictions, McKenzie said that “we didn’t want to compete in Scotland understrength. We have therefore decided to postpone this year’s trip and have begun planning for 2016 instead. This will also allow Gary plenty of time to establish himself in the role.”

He added that Graeme Parker had planned to remain as lead-drummer had the band been able to attend the 2015 World’s.
