Mike Fitzhenry gets the Axe at Lochaber Gathering

Fort William, Scotland – August 22, 2015 – The Lochaber Gathering Festival of Piping attracted a large entry of more than 40 contestants overall to the Nevis Centre. Contests were broken into Competing Pipers Association grades, proving popular with competitors. Mike Fithenry won the Lochaber Gold Axe (An Tuagh Oir) for piobaireachd, while Willie McCallum took both top-tier light music events and a second in the Lochaber Axe to have the best day overall. Meanwhile at the Lonach Gathering in northern Scotland, only four competitors entered the senior events, and organizers Jack Taylor and Duncan Watson played to make it six.
