Pipes+Drums returns to Piping Live! Aug. 9th

World Solo Drumming Champions and Gold Medallists will again take the stage at 2 pm on Tuesday, August 9th, at the outdoor Street Café at Piping Live! in Glasgow for pipes|drums Magazine’s annual Pipes+Drums Recital by Grade 1 pipe-majors and lead-drummers – a free event for all pipe band enthusiasts.

This year’s recitalists comprise more than 50 collective World Pipe Band Championships, World Pipe Band Drumming Championships and World Solo Drumming Championships and enough solo piping hardware to start a precious metals factory.

  • Boghall & Bathgate Caledonian Pipe Band – Pipe-Major Ross Harvey and Lead-Drummer Gordon Brown
  • Ottawa Police Pipe Band – Pipe-Major Andrew Hayes and Lead-Drummer Brendan Kelly
  • Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band – Pipe-Major Roddy MacLeod and Lead-Drummer Jim Kilpatrick
Ross Harvey, Gordon Brown, Andrew Hayes, Brendan Kelly, Jim Kilpatrick and Roddy MacLeod will perform at Pipes+Drums 2016, on August 9th at 2 pm.

The always-packed event asks each duo to play for about 25 minutes of any material they wish, provided a competition March, Strathspey & Reel is included, and each is compensated by the non-profit pipes|drums for their performance.

“Pipes+Drums has become one of the most popular events of Piping Live!, and this year’s lineup features some of the world’s greatest pipers and pipe band drummers,” said Andrew Berthoff, pipes|drums’ editor. “It’s a rare opportunity especially to hear these great drummers on their own, accompanied only by their pipe-majors. We hope you can make it!”

Gordon Brown and Jim Kilpatrick have each performed at Pipes+Drums in the past, and between them they have amassed over their long careers probably more pipe band drumming trophies than any drummers in history. Andrew Hayes and Roddy MacLeod are each Highland Society of London Gold Medallists and two of the world’s elite solo pipers.

pipes|drums is the official media partner of the week-long Piping Live! Glasgow International Piping Festival, which marks its thirteenth anniversary this year.
