Piping Live! 2014 – p|d’s daily picks for what to hit
Friday, August 15
Fred Morrison – 1 pm, National Piping Centre
Back on the Highland pipe for this rare recital of what will certainly be the usual spellbinding display from Big Red Fred. If it’s raining and you don’t have to be at Glasgow Green, and can just as well watch the free live stream of the Grade 1 qualifiers, well, listening an hour of Fred Morrison is a can’t-miss. £6.
Friday Night Folk – The Art School, 7 pm
Tejedor, Paddy Keenan Band, DàimhMor Big Band. A wonderful way to take a load off before the big day on Saturday. Paddy Keenan is not just a national treasure of Ireland, he’s perhaps the world’s greatest Uilleann piper. He has to be heard to be believed. It’s like seeing Bob Dylan or a member of The Beatles. £16.50.
If you can say you hear Fred Morrison and Paddy Keenan and the world’s greatest pipe bands all on the same day, well, win or lose, your trip has been a success.
