Strathmore Games cut short by lightning and rain

Strathmore, Scotland – June 14, 2009 – Solo piping prizes were still awarded despite the Strathmore Highland Games being cut short when rain, lightning, thunder and hail came down around 3 pm, with only half of the entrants having competed. The winner of the Piobaireachd event, Tracey Williams, got the worst of the weather mid-performance, and received a resounding cheer from fellow competitors, huddled under a tent as she played in shirt-sleeves.

  1. Lot of fed up pipers as organisers would not allow us to complete events in an empty tent once games abandoned. All credit to Tracey though, that took guts!
