The Greenville Scottish Games anchors Gallabrae, and embodies the finest of Scottish traditions brought to new levels of excellence.
The Greenville Scottish Games began in 2006, and from its inception has consistently taken an innovative, fresh approach to celebrating Scottish heritage. Greenville is nestled in arguably the highest concentration of Scots-Irish descent in the country. The legacy left to us resonates throughout the Upstate in our place names, our attitude toward family, our sense of humor, and our love of country.
There is so much to celebrate in this heritage, and so much to honor, that a small group of us said, heck, how hard can it be? Let’s establish a Games here in Greenville – and we needed a drop-dead gorgeous setting. We were offered a few landfill sites out in the County that somehow didn’t quite suit – maybe it was the methane pipes – and so when Furman University offered us the use of their athletic fields, we plopped the Games down in its new happy home and there we remain.

The Queen Mary is pleased to welcome back the annual ScotsFestival & International Highland Games XXIII February 13-14 from 9AM-6PM. Experience the rich culture and history of Scotland first hand through an array of authentic activities, athletics, dancing, entertainment and cuisine in ode to the Queen Mary’s Scottish legacy.
Eighty-six years ago, in the quaint seaside town of Clydebank, Scotland, construction began on the Queen Mary. Exemplifying the finest craftsmanship of the country, the Queen Mary’s legacy is undeniable and today the ship’s heritage is celebrated through the two-day ScotsFestival honoring Scottish culture.
ScotsFestival honors nearly fifty Scottish clans & vendors throughout the weekend with professional and amateur competitions in piping, drumming, massed bands, darts, Highland dancing, and Highland athletics. The Scottish Highland Games, a pre-cursor to today’s Olympic Games, were designed to test the strength, skill and technique of ancient warriors by face offs.
Whisky tasting sessions with aged malt experts and craft beer samplings are available for adult festivalgoers while the wee laddies & lassies can bear witness to Queen Mary’s coronation, knighting ceremonies and even take part in the Wee Highland games.
Highland Dancing Competitions (9am start), Piping & Drumming Competitions (9am start), Scottish Heavyweight Athletics (all day, starting at 10am), Pipe Band performances (afternoon), Clan Tents, Genealogy Information (10am-4pm), Food and Drink, Beer Tent Noon-5pm), the Plaid Place will be onsite (the store for everything Scottish). Admission: Adults $7.00; Youth (12 and under) $3.00; Children under 6, no charge.
