Over the past 37 years, the Montreal Highland Games has become one of the premier events on the North American highland games circuit. The Montreal Highland Games is always held on the Sunday following the Glengarry (Maxville) Games, which makes it a double header for pipe bands, athletes, highland dancers and spectators. Among competitors this has become known as the M&M weekend.

Friday is the qualifiers for the Grade 1 World Pipe Band Championships, and many will be at Glasgow Green to see and hear the bands. You can also watch the live feed at The National Piping Centre (bar and food service)! Meantime, the Street Café at the National Piping Centre is booming, there are bands at George Square, including the Armagh Pipers Club, and Friday Folk Night at the Art Club with Armagh Pipers Club, Scott Wood Band, Wendy MacIsaac and Mary Jane Lamond.

Thursday all the Grade 1 bands have their game faces on, but that's no reason for the rest of us not to smile! The day has Pipe-a-Thon World Record attempt, CLASP solo piping, and band performances in George Square from Belgian Blend Pipe Band, Dartmouth & District Pipe Band, North Stratton Pipe Band, Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band and Malaysia Sikh Band. The amazing Armagh Pipers Club is in the Street Café, there's a Fred Morrison CD launch, a recital with Nova Scotia's Matt MacIssac, the Big Music Society with Murray Henderson and much more!

The National Piping Centre invites you to the 2015 P.E.I. Summerside Piping and Drumming School. We will have a daily program which will cover all aspects of performance including practice routines, technique, musical expression, tuning and ensemble playing. Students will be taught in a small group of similar ability for 3-4 hours per day with workshops, recitals and practice time built in. All levels of players are welcome. |
