2013 Winter Storm has biggest pro snare event outside of World Solos

The annual Winter Storm Competition in Kansas City, Missouri, January 11-13 will break its own entry records for snare competitions outside of the World Solo Drumming in Scotland when 23 of Professional-Grade players converge to compete for the Henderson’s Pipe & Drum Supply North American Gold Medal Drumming Championships.

Competitors from as far afield as Glasgow will travel to the contest, now in its twelfth year. The competitions include a full slate of solo piping and drumming events, which coincide with the annual workshop that features instructors from Canada, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and the USA.

According to organizers, entries in all competitions are up from past years, and the number of instructors – who also judge the competitions – are the most ever for the weekend event. Registrations for the workshops total more than 300 pipers and drummers. All events are held at two Kansas City hotels.

The weekend culminates with a concert by instructors and winning competitors before an expected sold-out audience of more than 1000, which will be streamed live on the net at http://learn.dojouniversity.com/winter-storm-live-broadcast/.

The event is organized by the nonprofit Midwest Highland Arts Fund, a registered charity.
