All-star line-up of piping talent on tap for University of Strathclyde Recital Challenge

On the heels of announcing the new “Lord of the Todd Challenge” for tenor- and bass-drummers, the four pipers in the event that started it all have been announced by organizer Willie McCallum.

Alasdair Gillies, Stuart Liddell, Angus MacColl and Gordon Walker are the featured performers who will vie for the University of Strathclyde Silver Medal at the Lord Todd Bar on Thursday, August 9, beginning at 7:30 pm in Glasgow in the University of Strathclyde Recital Challenge.

MacColl has won the event three times and Walker returns as the 2006 winner.

The competition calls for pipers to play pretty much whatever they want on the Highland pipes for 30 minutes, with the event judged by a panel of five unknown judges selected from the audience.

As in year’s past, the emcee for the event will be John Wilson. Tickets for the University of Strathclyde Recital Challenge go on sale on July 5 at £7 each, available from the venue or by phoning 0141-548-2435.

  1. MAMMA MIA ANDY! I’m going there to play a wee bit more than 10 minutes. 30 minutes each that must include an MSR and a Ground of a Piobaireachd. Then it’s Take Ra Floor O’er” an let the punters decide with a little help from the planted crew of judges. In a contest like this we all win. Players
