Bagad Cap Caval drummer dies suddenly

Alain Riou, a side-drummer with the Grade 2 Bagad Cap Caval Pipe Band of Brittany, died on November 13 of causes related to leukemia.

Riou was considered a pioneer of pipe band drumming in France. Before joining Cap Caval in 1999, Riou was leading-drummer with Brest St Mark for many years. Upon returning from Scotland after the 2004 World Pipe Band Championships, where Cap Caval finished third in Grade 2, he was diagnosed with the disease.

Alain Riou leaves a wife and three sons.

Our condolences go to Alain Riou’s family and many friends.
