I had the honour of judging the open MSR contest, and I have to say that I’ve rarely heard a contest with such quality. Of the 20 that played, at least 12 performances could have come out on top in a regular summer games event. Grade One and Two were also very strong. However, I was most impressed by the calibre of the Grade 4 band contest. Incredible stuff – tone, clarity and music. A testament to the teaching in all the organizations on the west coast. First rate.
