Branch takes novel approach to drawing entries

The old joke that a competition can be part “lottery” is being taken literally by the Niagara-Hamilton branch of the Pipers & Pipe Band Society of Ontario over its upcoming indoor season.

In addition to traditional prizes in familiar competition, the branch is offering all competitors the chance to win glitzy prizes just for participating in events.

Over the course of the branch’s three amateur indoor competitions this winter and spring, drumming entrants will have their name entered in a draw for a new Premier HTS800 snare drum, compliments of Cameron’s Drumming Studio and Premier Music International. Competitors in the amateur piping contests will automatically be part of a draw for a set of Piper’s Choice Kitchen Pipes from Scott’s Highland Services.

“We want all competitors to have a chance to win these wonderful prizes,” said PPBSO Niagara-Hamilton branch President Julie Stewart. The more they compete the greater the chance they can win.”

Each time a competitor enters one of the three branch competitions, his or her name will be added to the prize-draw. The draw for the donated prizes will be made on April 17th, the final amateur event of the season fro the branch.

The branch competitions, all held at the Hamilton Armoury on James Street, are for all amateur grades and scheduled for Saturday January 16th; Saturday, February 13th; and Saturday April 17th.

“We are trying to encourage our amateurs to participate during the off-season to help promote as much musical growth as possible,” Stewart added.
