CLASP schedule highlighted by World Amateur Championship
The Competition League of Amateur Pipers (CLASP) has announced its schedule of events for the coming year, punctuated by the World Solo Amateur Piping Championships during Piping Live! in Glasgow this August.
The organization, which caters to UK-based pipers older than 18, who otherwise would have to compete against more accomplished players, also said that two pipers have moved from CLASP to start competing in “Senior” or “Open” competitions. Peter McAlister and Douglas Gardiner have been given a C-Grading by the Competing Pipers Association, and have recently picked up prizes at the Duncan Johnstone Memorial and at the Blair Atholl games.
The World Solo Amateur Championships will be held from August 12 to 14 the Piping Live! Festival, with the overall winner of Grade 1 receiving an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at the 2010 Metro Cup Amateur event in New York. McAlister won the award in 2008.
