Catherine Watt wins pipes|drums ‘Predict The Six’ contest

Catherine Watt of River John, Nova Scotia, is the winner of the first pipes|drums “Predict The Six” competition, where readers were invited to forecast the final Grade 1 prize-list at the 2007 World Pipe Band Championships. Based on the points system and the fact that she also correctly chose the winner, Catherine had the highest score.

Catherine receives a prize package from pipes|drums, which includes a subscription that will not expire to the online magazine, $100 in cash, a pipes|drums t-shirt and baseball cap, and a prize package of assorted piping and drumming merchandise.

Catherine Watt got her winning pick in the day before the contest. She chose:

1st Field Marshal Montgomery
2nd Simon Fraser University
3rd House of Edgar-Shotts & Dykehead
4th Strathclyde Police
5th St. Laurence O’Toole
6th Scottish Lion-78th Fraser Highlanders

This gave her 12 points, one-point clear of the next highest entry.

“I’m sure all my band friends will have a laugh when they see I won!” Catherine commented.

One canny prognosticator got the result exactly right and even predicted the winner in the Medley drumming. But the entrant neglected to include his/her e-mail address in the entry, and was therefore disqualified because there was no way to verify the pick.

On August 6 the anonymous entrant put in this spot-on prediction:

1st Field Marshal Montgomery
2nd Simon Fraser University
3rd House of Edgar-Shotts & Dykehead
4th Scottish Lion-78th Fraser Highlanders
5th Strathclyde Police
6th St. Laurence O’Toole

And Shotts will win the drumming and DEFINITELY will win the selection drumming.

Congratulations to Catherine Watt of River John, Nova Scotia!
