Clunie takes over as new Tayside Police P-M

David Clunie, leader of the Grade 1 Clan Gregor Society Pipe Band before its dissolution in early October, has been made Pipe-Major of the Grade 1 Tayside Police Pipe Band. Clunie replaces Terry Reid, who plans to stay with the band.

According to Clunie, only “two or three” of the pipers who were with Clan Gregor reportedly will go with him to the Tayside Police.

Clunie joins Ian Tobin, who was appointed Leading-Drummer last week. The two have been friends since they were members of the Bowhill & Seafield Pipe Band in the 1970s.

“This post has only come about as a result of the demise of Clan Gregor which at the time was my first priority, to salvage the situation of losing the drum corps,” Clunie stressed. “Only due to the irretrievable position of Clan Gregor have I accepted this new post and I would like to thank all of the Clan [Gregor] pipers for the commitment and effort over the years past and wish them every success in their future ventures.”

Clunie said that he is looking to establish Tayside Police as a contending Grade 1 band quickly. He said that the current roster of Tayside Police pipers remains intact. He added that those interested in joining the Tayside Police should contact him by e-mail.
