Colin Craig, 1920-2007

The well known piper Colin Craig died on Monday in New Zealand at the age of 87.

Craig was famous for his compositions. His hornpipes, “Jimmy Blue” and “Outward Bound,” are staples in the repertoires of many pipers and other Celtic folk musicians.

In 1978 Colin Craig won the Comunn na Piobaireachd New Zealand Gold Medal. He was a noted teacher in the Manawatu area of the Lower North Island.

To Colin Craig’s family and friends, we offer our condolences.

  1. Colin was not only a great composer, but an excellent player and teacher. He was also a wonderful character and a true gentleman, and it was a privilege to have known him.
