Competing Pipers Association Launches Web Site

The Competing Pipers Association (CPA) has launched its official Web site at www.competingpipers.com.

The site features News, History, Membership and Events sections, as well as the CPA’s extensive “Guide to the Games,” which highlights all solo piping competitions in the United Kingdom.

Among the more interesting features of the new site is the CPA’s Judges List. In late 1999 the CPA conducted a pool of its membership asking for their opinions of current judges. The results of the survey have been cloaked in secrecy for many months, and have reportedly been the subject of several meetings of the Joint Committee for solo piping. The judges list resulting from the meetings has not yet been made available to the to the piping public.

“The Competing Pipers Association has just begun to realize some of the things which we want to achieve and hope to see happening during the next few years,” said CPA president Colin MacLellan. “The new Web site is designed to make communication even better with the CPA and its members.”

Among the news found on the site is the fact that the Northern Meeting, upon the advice of the CPA, will this year institute a March, Strathspey & Reel competition that will act as a qualifier for the Silver Star Former Winners MSR. Those who have already qualified by winning one A Light Music event, as long as it wasn’t in 1999 or 2000, will continue to play in the the Silver Star. Nearly thirty pipers have entered the Silver Star MSR in recent years.
