Cusack Withdraws from Glenfiddich

Michael Cusack of Houston, Texas, has withdrawn from the Glenfiddich Invitational Piping Championships scheduled for October 27 at Blair Atholl Castle, Blair Atholl, Scotland.

Alasdair Gillies, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, will reportedly be invited to take Cusack’s place.

Cusack, who qualified to be invited to the contest because of his aggregate victory at the United States Piping Foundation (USPF) contest in June, stated that he decided to withdraw because of travel concerns in connection with the September 11 terrorist acts in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.

“I just don’t want to find myself not able to get home for some reason,” Cusack said. “I thought there would be a possibility I might pull out at the last minute, and I didn’t think that would be fair to the Glenfiddich, the USPF or the person who would be able to go in my place.”

Alasdair Gillies was first alternate based on his prizes in both Former Winners MSRs at Inverness and Oban, and his runner-up finish at the USPF event.
