Derek Craig Takes Over Glasgow Skye Corps

Craig Campbell, Glasgow Skye Association Pipe Band Pipe-Major, has confirmed that the band’s new Lead Drummer is Derek Craig.

Craig is the son of Gordon Craig, who led Glasgow Skye’s drum section for 18 years.

“I am delighted to get the opportunity to work with Derek,” Campbell commented. “I’m sure the band will go from strength to strength with his leadership of the drum section.”

Glasgow Skye has been the subject of several drumming news stories since the fall when long time lead tip, Jim Collins, resigned as lead drummer. It was announced that Collins would be replaced by former McNeilstown lead drummer, Keith Orr, but Orr then departed Glasgow Skye before he even started to take a suddenly vacant spot as head of 2002 World Champions Field Marshal Montgomery’s corps.

We had previously reported that the post at Glasgow Skye had been filled by another drummer. This report turned out to be a regrettable hoax.

Glasgow Skye is one of the oldest top grade civilian bands in the world, but has consistently struggled to attain the prize lists at major championships.
