Dowco-Triumph Street and Mexican pipe band to perform in Ottawa

The fifth annual B In The Park in downtown Ottawa the day before the North American Championships at Maxville, Ontario, begin will again feature the Triumph Street Pipe Band, but this time as a Grade 1 band and with a new sponsor.

Dowco-Triumph Street will take the main stage in downtown Ottawa on Thursday, July 31, at 6 pm, along with the St. Patrick’s Battalion Pipes & Drums of Mexico City and the Sons of Scotland Pipe Band, the organizers and hosts of the concert. Also performing will be the Katharine Robinson School of Dance.

The outdoor concert, with tickets $10 each, invites the audience to bring a lawn-chair, with this year’s concert a part of Ottawa’s new Rideau Canal Festival of eco-friendly activities and vendors in Confederation Park and other sites in central Ottawa.

“Pipe bands have always been ‘green,’ rarely mic’ed, and most emissions are self-induced,” said Sons of Scotland Pipe-Major, Beth Basaillion. “The show this year includes a beer tent with participating brewers Caledonian from Edinburgh sending over their Caledonia 80 Shilling, and locals Heritage Brewing have a beer celebrating the history of the Canal.”

She added that Glenfiddich will be the whisky supplier, and tents will have food and other entertainment.
