Draws for World Pipe Band Championships Announced

We have obtained the draws for the 2002 World Pipe Band Championships on August 10 at Glasgow Green, Glasgow. Over 250 bands are entered to compete on the day – a new record for the ever-expanding event.

Grade 2 features 36 bands, so the grade will be halved, with 12 bands going through to a final event.

The draw for Grade 1 will be made after the result of the British Pipe Band Championships at Ayr, Scotland, are known. “Overseas” bands that finished in the top six at last year’s World Championship (Simon Fraser University and the 78th Fraser Highlanders) get a bye to the final round, as do bands that have place in 2002 RSPBA major championships before the World’s (Field Marshal Montgomery, Shotts & Dykehead, Boghall & Bathgate, ScottishPower, Strathclyde Police, St. Laurence O’Toole, and Dysart & Dundonald), according to the RSPBA’s league table points system.
