Duirinish Stone Composing Competition Announced

The community council of Dunvegan, Isle of Skye, has decided to commemorate the erection of the millennium Duirinish Stone in Dunvegan with a competition to find a pipe tune that will be titled “The Duirinish Stone.”

A prize of £500 will be given to the composer of the winning tune.

The tune must be a 2/4 march with a minimum of four parts. According to the organizers, the contest will be judged by “a panel of four locally based piping experts.” Closing date for entries is May 14, 2000.

Entries should not have composer’s name on score and should be accompanied by cassette tape of the tune and a letter from the composer.

Further details may be obtained from Mrs. Mairi Laing, Dunvegan Community Council, 5 Dunanellerich, Harlosh, Isle of Skye, Scotland, Tel: 01470 521483.
